Alcohol and heart disease: where to next? Interview by Christine Forder.

Dr Mukamal is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School, MA, USA. Following medical school at the University of California, San Francisco, he completed a residency in internal medicine at Yale-New Haven Hospital and, after 3 years in academic practice, he took a general medicine fellowship and MPH from the Harvard School of Public Health. Dr Mukamal practices general internal medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, with a primary research focus on the relationship of lifestyle factors - particularly alcohol consumption - with the incidence and prognosis of cardiovascular disease.
