Monoclonal gammopathy of cutaneous significance.
Monoclonal gammopathies are strongly associated with several dermatologic diseases. Classification of the underlying hematologic disorder often impacts management; in many cases, patients with a gammopathy-related skin disease are diagnosed with monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS) and monitored for progression to multiple myeloma. Herein we discuss the concept of "monoclonal gammopathy of cutaneous significance" (MGCS), a paraproteinemia with serious cutaneous sequelae which may warrant co-management with hematology and treatment that addresses the underlying immunoglobulin- or plasma cell disorder. This article provides a review of MGCS clinical manifestations, diagnosis, as well as emerging data on targeted therapies.
