Age and Sex Correlations with Melanoma Outcomes (Nodal Status, Survival Melanoma in Pregnancy, and Spitzoid Lesions).

Abstract

Patient demographics have a significant association with oncologic outcomes in melanoma. The relationship between melanoma and patient age, as well as melanoma and a patient's sex at birth is intriguing and can appear incongruent. Increasing age is associated with a decreased risk of lymphatic spread yet simultaneously associated with worse survival. Spitzoid proliferations often present in young patients and differentiating between Spitz nevus, atypical Spitz tumor, Spitz melanocytoma, Spitz melanoma, and melanoma with Spitzoid features is critical. There is no convincing evidence that pregnancy is an independent risk factor in the development of melanoma nor associated with worse outcomes.
