Abstract
76 patients were reviewed retrospectively to assess the efficacy of surgery for ingrowing toenails. 110 primary procedures were carried out with an overall symptomatic recurrence rate of 415. When used as a primary procedure, avulsion alone has a symptomatic recurrence rate of 45%, wedge excision 33% and Zadik's procedure 16%. A nail-bed ablation is the most effective treatment for ingrowing toenails.
