Inpatient rehabilitation: panacea or Pandora's box?

The opportunity for enhanced reimbursement and seeming ease of market entry has prompted an increasing number of acute care hospitals to consider entering the inpatient rehabilitation market. In this article the authors review the federal regulations, labor markets, and competitive situation for this service. This review suggests that the development of rehabilitation services must be approached with the same planning and caution as other diversification strategies.
