Abstract

Ethics committees offer the opportunity to air ethical differences in a nonadversarial manner, enabling those involved to discuss and understand their differences. Establishing processes for an ethics committee involves reflection on basic ethical principles of conduct governing an individual or group. Agencies can learn from the process of ethical decisionmaking in home care organizations that have achieved accreditation either through CHAP or through JCAHO.
