To communicate with who doesn't communicate: an "unexplained" fever in an elderly woman with Alzheimer's dementia at an advanced stage

Abstract

Fever of unknown origin is per se a -diagnostic challenge. In elderly patients with advanced Alzheimer disease the impairment of verbal communication adds another critical element. We describe the clinical case of an elderly woman in which fever, proved secondary to Horton disease, was accompanied by manifestations misinterpreted as behavioral disorders.
