What is the definition of Fetal Parvovirus Syndrome?
Fetal parvovirus syndrome is a rare disease that occurs when a pregnant woman is infected with parvovirus B19 (also known as fifth disease in children and adults) and passes it along to her baby. In rare instances, a baby infected with parvovirus B19 may develop severe anemia from the abnormal development of red blood cells.
What are the symptoms of Fetal Parvovirus Syndrome?
Symptoms of fetal parvovirus syndrome may include miscarriage, stillbirth, infection, severe anemia (aplastic crisis), fluid build-up in the tissues and around heart (hydrops fetalis), and cardiac failure.
